You’ll need access to a computer, a printer, a connection to the Internet, and BCCC student email. The BCCC library computer lab is available for online classes if you do not have a computer at home. System Requirements.
The same procedures for taking a traditional seated class apply to all online classes as well. For information about a specific class, contact the instructor or the admissions office.
Financial aid recipients enrolled in Internet courses follow the same procedures regarding registration and purchase of text books as do recipients enrolled in traditional classes. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information.
Campus visits may be required for orientation, registration, testing, or if you need to see your instructor. Some instructors will require that you attend an instructor/class orientation on campus for each online class. Orientation information is located on the BCCC website.
How do I know what the procedures are in place for proctored testing?
Always check with your instructor. For more information refer to Proctored Testing Procedures.
All NEW online students
must complete an Assessment & Orientation Process by the
first day of class. Check
course listings to see if additional orientation is required.
ALL NEW BCCC online students are required to successfully complete the online assessment and email it to firstname.lastname@example.org by the first day of class. (Requires Microsoft Word) This assessment will test your computer skills on downloading and opening a file, inserting text to a file, saving a file to a directory, or flash drive, sending email, and attaching a file to that email. You must have Microsoft Word to complete this assessment. You will receive an email confirmation that we have received your assessment.
How do I know
when my course(s) will be available to me?
Most courses require a textbook. Any books, materials or software needed to support the course you are taking can be purchased from our campus bookstore. Your instructor will inform you about specific requirements. Microsoft Word is required for all Blackboard classes. Some classes require additional software.
The instructor for each course is the primary contact for questions or problems related to coursework. Use email or the telephone to get in touch with an instructor. If you need to schedule an appointment for hands-on assistance, contact your instructor for an appointment.
Try to determine if the problem is with your equipment or your Internet Service Provider. If you need further help contact Tricia Woolard at 252-940-6312, Penny Sermons at 252-940-6243 or Saundra Pinkham 252-940-6354.
Students who participate in online courses receive a grade just as they would in a traditional class. Instructors use the Blackboard gradebook to post grades.
