You’ll need access to a PC, a modem, a printer, a connection to the Internet, and a personal email address or a BCCC Student Email account. Beaufort County Community College offers all registered curriculum students an email account. The BCCC library computer lab is available for online classes if you do not have a computer at home. How do I register for an online course? The same procedures for taking a traditional seated class apply to all online classes as well. For information about a specific class, contact the instructor or the admissions office. How do I know if I can get Financial Aid? Financial aid recipients enrolled in Internet courses follow the same procedures regarding registration and purchase of text books as do recipients enrolled in traditional classes. Contact the Financial Aid office for more information. How do I know if I have to come on campus? Campus visits may be required for orientation, registration, testing, or if you need to see your instructor. Some instructors will require that you attend an instructor/class orientation on campus for each online class. Orientation information is located on the BCCC website. How do I know if an online orientation is required? All NEW online students
must complete an Assessment & Orientation Process by the
first day of class. Check
course listings to see if additional orientation is required. ALL NEW BCCC online students are required to successfully complete the online assessment and email it to bcccassessment@beaufortccc.edu by the first day of class. (Requires Microsoft Word) This assessment will test your computer skills on downloading and opening a file, inserting text to a file, saving a file to a directory, floppy disk or flash drive, sending email, and attaching a file to that email. You must have Microsoft Word 97 or higher to complete this assessment. You will receive an email confirmation that we have received your assessment. You are to email your confirmation to your instructor to confirm enrollment in the class. You are only required to take this assessment one time.
How do I know
when my course(s) will be available to me? How do I know if I need to buy a textbook or other material or software? Most courses require a textbook. Any books, materials or software needed to support the course you are taking can be purchased from our campus bookstore. Your instructor will inform you about specific requirements. Microsoft Word is required for all online classes. Some classes require additional software. How do I know who to get help from if I have a problem? The instructor for each course is the primary contact for questions or problems related to coursework. Use email or the telephone to get in touch with an instructor. If you need to schedule an appointment for hands-on assistance, contact your instructor for an appointment. Try to determine if the problem is with your equipment or your Internet Service Provider. Students can contact their instructor by going to the online course listings page or go to the faculty and staff contact page. You will have to use your personal email account until the first day of class. How do I find out what my grade is? Students who participate in online courses receive a grade just as they would in a traditional class. Some instructors use the Blackboard gradebook. Check with your instructor. BCCC does not currently offer a full degree online. However, we are planning to increase our Distance Learning class offerings to meet the needs of our students. We are also working with the North Carolina Community College Virtual Learning Community to develop additional courses and full degrees by distance. How do I receive college credit? Students enrolled in curriculum courses will receive college credit. Students auditing courses will be charged according to the published tuition rates. Students enrolled in Continuing Education online classes (Education to Go) will not receive college credit. How do I know what the URL for Blackboard is? You may access the Blackboard server at http://bb.beaufortccc.edu or access it from the BCCC website at http://www.beaufortccc.edu and then click on the Blackboard logo or the drop down box and click on Blackboard. How do I know what my Username and Password for Blackboard is? Click here for Demo Your Username is your last name + first initial + middle initial + 2-digit birth
month + 2-digit day-of-birth. Your Password is the last six digits of your social security number. How do I learn more about the Blackboard software environment? There is a student manual with general information available in your Blackboard course. Click on Tools, Student Manual, and read the step-by-step tutorial.

How do I
use my own personal
email address for my online classes? How do I enter my personal email address or BCCC Student Email address in Blackboard? Click here for Demo You will need to enter your email address in Blackboard or you will not receive information from your instructor. Go to your Blackboard online course and click on Tools, Personal Information, and enter your correct email address. Then scroll down and click on the submit button. How do I change my personal email address or BCCC Student Email address? You will need to change the old address immediately or you will not receive information from your instructor. Go to your Blackboard online course and click on Tools, Personal Information, and enter your correct email address. Then scroll down and click on the submit button. How do I attach a file to the Student Drop box? Click here for Demo Save your work that you would like to attach in your word processing software or required software to your hard drive or a floppy disk. (Remember where you saved the file.) Enter your Blackboard course and click on Tools. Click on Student Drop Box. Click on Add File. Click on the Browse button and locate your saved file. (Note: You may need to change the file type at the bottom of the directory window to All Files so that you will see your file listed. Use the drop down arrow to select the All Files type.) Once you have located your saved file, click on the file name and then click on open . You will then see the file name listed. Click on SEND FILE button select the linked file and then submit your file to your instructor. How do I attach a file to my email from within blackboard? Click here for Demo In your Blackboard course you will click on the "Communications" button and then the "send email" link. Select one of the user options. Type your email subject and message and then click on the attach file button and browse out to your file and select it. It is always good practice to send the email to yourself for confirmation. How do I get my assignment to an instructor if the email server is down and an assignment is due? Contact your instructor to let them know what the problem is. You may still fax, mail or deliver your assignments to the campus. Do not wait for the instructor to contact you. Every effort will be made to have the email server up and running as soon as possible. If possible, notice will be given ahead of time if the BCCC email server will be down for a long period of time. |
