BCCC Board Welcomes New Trustee, New Student Rep

The Beaufort County Community College Board of Trustees welcomed two new members at its October 3 meeting. Retired social work supervisor Teresa Canady joined Student Government Association president Jenny Futrell as new members of the board.

Teresa Canady served the Martin County Department of Social Services as a Social Worker Supervisor until she retired in 2015. There she supervised the Child Care, Work First Employment Services Units and Intake Services. She started working with Beaufort County Department of Social Services in 1977 and later worked for Washington County DSS for 16 years. Canady holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a Concentration in Management. She earned an Associate of Applied Science in Secretarial Science from BCCC. The wife of William Canady has one daughter, Felisha Canady, and lives in Washington.

Canady succeeds Ashley Woolard on the board of trustees. Canady’s term will run through 2021.

“By serving on this Trustee Board, I want to ensure that the students and community continue to have the necessary tools to become lifelong learners and global and innovative citizens,” said Canady.

Jenny Futrell is a pre-nursing student at BCCC. She is a mother of two and holds an Applied Science in Medical Office Administration from BCCC. She attended Riverside High School in Williamston. The Student Government Association holds events throughout the year for students to promote student life on campus.

The two take office as the college celebrates its 50thanniversary. On October 11, the college pulled 25-year-old course catalogs and publications from a time capsule it buried during its 25th anniversary.
