Gamma Beta Phi Raises Funds for Veteran Women

The academic honor society, Gamma Beta Phi, has been raising money at Beaufort County Community College this holiday season on behalf of the Pamlico Rose Institute for Sustainable Culture, benefiting female veterans who suffer from PTSD. The Institute is refurbishing an historic house on E. Third St. that will serve as a home and therapy center for these deserving veterans.

On December 11, Gamma Beta Phi randomly selected recipients for two gift cards from all the “boots” the group has sold. The group has displayed these “boots”, tickets shaped like combat boots, on the windows of the Student Center. Each ticket is also memorialized in honor of a veteran or service member of our purchasers' choosing.

Gamma Beta Phi raised over $500 to support PRISC. Food Lion and Speedway graciously donated the gift cards to assist the effort.

“I am so proud of these students' devotion and hard work,” said Dr. Keith Lyon, faculty advisor for the student group. “These students have such a wonderful orientation towards community, to something bigger than themselves. We are just so happy to help move Pamlico Rose closer to its goal of helping veteran women in our area.”
