Activity Coordinator
This course is designed to prepare individuals to seek employment in long-term care facilities. The following topics will be covered: The Aging Process, Activity Programs, Therapeutic Activities, Motivation and Leadership Skills, and Activity Care Plans.

Private Pilot
This course is designed to assist the students in preparation for the Private Pilot’s License. It is only the classroom work; flight time must be arranged by individuals with a qualified instructor. Arrangements for the private pilot’s examination will be made at the end of class for those wishing to take it.

Marine Captain's License
This course is designed to prepare boatmen for the Marine Captain’s License. Course study includes: Aides to Navigation, Rules of the Road, Seamanship, Marlinespike, Ship Handling and Piloting.

IHEALTH UNIT COORDINATOR
One hundred twenty-six hour course designed to prepare students to work on a hospital ward to input patients data. Class registration is limited and is on a first come first serve basis. Requirements: High School Diploma/GED, proof of 2 MMR vaccinations, negative PPD test within last year.

NOTARY PUBLIC
This course prepares individuals to become Notary Public in the State of North Carolina.

WATER/WASTE PROGRAM
The Division of Continuing Education offers Courses in Wastewater levels 1-4 and Waterplant Well Operators levels A, B, And C. Courses are typically offered on Monday and Thursday evenings from 6PM to 9PM. Courses are scheduled around the respective regional examinations. The Division of Continuing Education offers courses to satisfy the continuing education requirements for both water plant and wastewater operators. Teacher Recertification

*Effective Substitute Teacher Training
This course is suited for those individuals who are interested in becoming substitute teachers in the public school and for individuals ready to finish their four year teaching degree. It also awards 3 CEU credits for classroom teachers in their renewal program.

OCCUPATIONAL SKILLS TRAINING

CONVERSATIONAL Spanish For The Workplace
Thirty-hour course designed to assist individuals who work with Spanish speaking persons. Basic phrases, verbs and vocabulary will be included as well as an opportunity to translate phrases to the students worksite.

PHARMACY TECHNICIAN
This course prepares individuals to work as a Pharmacy Technician in a community or hospital pharmacy.

SIGN LANGUAGE
Thirty-hour course designed to assist students in learning American Sign Language.

CUSTOMER SERVICE
Course designed to provide instruction in providing excellent customer service rather it be answering the telephone, waiting tables or selling retail products.

Work Keys/Key Training
Computerized programs & assessment to determine an individual's readiness for the work place. Available for use on campus or can carry to businesses/industry to check skill level of worker.


Human Resources Development (HRD)
A program offered in the community college system for more than 25 years. The purpose of the program has been to assist unemployment and unemployed persons to successfully secure employment. Currently the program is offered without a registration fee and students meet the qualifications.

Sessions include:
  • Deciding on a suitable career
  • Improving self-discipline for job success
  • Evaluating present skills for proper job placement
  • Determining how and where to look for jobs
  • Learning job search techniques
  • Learning how to complete job applications
  • Improving job interview skills
  • Learning strategies to keep your job.

Also receive: (Subject to change with budget consideration by state legislature)

  • Follow-up services for one year after program completion
