- We offer Nurse Aide I and Nurse Aide II classes. Classes are held on
campus and in Washington County. Due to the enormous responsibility that has
been placed on nurse aides in health care, BCCC is dedicated to
producing high quality, professional, and knowledgeable nurse aides.
Class sizes are limited, and students must pass an entrance exam before
entering a class.
- Nurse
Aide I
This course
prepares students to provide personal care and perform basic nursing
skills for the elderly and other adults. Emphasis is on the role of the
nurse aide with healthcare team members; communication and
documentation; infection control; principles of safety and emergency
measures; resident’s rights; common disorders/diseases of each body
system, system-related aging changes; personal care and grooming;
perform accurate measurement procedures; elimination procedures; special
care procedures; nutrition management; death and dying; restorative
services; and psychological effects of aging.
After completing the Nurse Aide
Training, graduates are eligible to apply for the State Nurse Aide
Competency Evaluation. Upon passing this examination applicants are
listed with the Division of Facility Services - Nurse Aide I Registry.
The Nurse Aide Level I class includes 54 hours of classroom
instruction, 78 hours of lab instruction,
48 hours of clinical
rotation and 12 hours of final review for state
testing.

- Nurse
Aide II
This program
prepares students to perform more complex skills for patients or
residents. Emphasis is on the role of the nurse aide with healthcare
team members; communication and documentation; enhance NA I skills;
common disorders/diseases of each body system; diabetic care; enteral
nutrition; infection control, principles of sterile technique, dressing
changes for wounds over 48 hours; bowel elimination needs, fecal
impaction removal, colostomy care/irrigation of; urinary elimination
needs, catheterization, removal of a catheter/irrigation of; intravenous
site care, observation and removal; maintenance of oxygen therapy;
oropharyngeal suctioning; nasopharyngeal suctioning; closed and open
trach suctioning; and tracheostomy care. Upon satisfactory completion
of the course and the Final Written/Lab Competency Evaluation, the
graduate is eligible to apply for listing as a Nurse Aide II with the NC
Board of Nursing-Nurse Aide II Registry.
The Nurse Aide Level II class includes 90 hours of classroom lab
instruction and 84 hours of clinical rotation, and 8
hours for final exam.
