The Division of Continuing Education offers a variety of computer courses for the beginning PC user to courses in a variety of software applications. Evening classes are typically scheduled from 6:30PM to 9:30PM. However, courses are scheduled at various times. Courses are offered in outlying parts of the service area. It is highly recommended that students have either taken Introduction to Windows or have a working knowledge of Windows prior to taking program application courses. Examples of frequently offered courses are listed below.

Intro to Computers
This introductory computer course will familiarize students with terminology, perfecting mouse skills, saving files, formatting disks and introduce students to computer technology by incorporating a variety of computer programs.

PowerPoint
This program is part of the Microsoft Office software package. The 18 hour course will cover use of the content wizards, working in slide View, merging presentations in slide view, working with templates and more. Learn to create dynamic and impressive presentations with PowerPoint.

Web Page Design
Students will learn to create their own web page designs in this 18 hour course. Students will learn to work with hypertext links and use a variety of tools such as Microsoft Word, Internet and Netscape Navigator gold. A thorough working knowledge of Windows 95, Microsoft word 7.0, and the internet are suggested pre-requisites.

Microsoft Access
is the database portion of the Microsoft Office 2000 package. Students will learn database basics, how to create databases and tables and modify these documents. In addition, students will learn to cut, copy and Paste data and change database layouts plus many more features and functions of the Access program in this 30 hour course. A thorough working knowledge of Windows 95/98 is a suggested prerequisite.

PC Upgrading and Troubleshooting
This course explores the fundamentals of upgrading and troubleshooting PC's. Students learn to identify internal components, replace drives, upgrade memory, modems, and hard disk.

 Online Computer Courses

Education to Go

These courses are designed to meet students needs and interests by enabling learners to take classes in the comfort of their own homes. Study at a time that is most convenient for you, without the need for attending classes on campus. If you do not have the necessary equipment for online courses and live in the Beaufort County Community College Service area, you may use Brown Library, Pettigrew Libraries in Plymouth and Columbia as well as BCCC Library to take these courses. QuickBooks Online
QuickBooks is designed for the small to medium sized business owner who enjoys Quicken’s ease of use but prefers a more traditional approach to accounting. Easily set up a chart of accounts, reconcile checking accounts, create and print invoices, receipts, accounts receivable and statements. In addition, track payables, inventory, create estimates and more.

Requirements:
For this class Students will need QuickBooks 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0 or QuickBooks Pro 4.0 or 5.0 or 6.0. You may order the full-featured trial version (good for 25 sessions) at no charge. Students will also need Internet access, email, and the Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator web browser.


Heating and Air Conditioning Repair
This course is designed for those who are interested in entering the field of heating and air conditioning repair. Learn the fundamentals of the trade through hands on experience with a variety of heat and AC units. Students will learn how to use diagnostic equipment and troubleshoot problems as well as cover many other topics relating to this field. In addition EPA Refrigeration Certification is included in this course.
 
Law Enforcement Programs
The Division of Continuing Education offers courses that are mandated and non-mandated by the NC Department of Justice Training and Standards Division. These include L.E. In-Service, Telecommunicator In-Service, Detention Officer In-Service. Courses in these subjects are periodically scheduled throughout the year. In addition, courses in Firearms In-service qualification, OC Chemical Weapons, ASP Baton, Drug Investigation and others can be offered upon request to law enforcement agencies.

Healthcare Provider CPR/Heartsaver CPR/
Certification courses in Adult and Pediatric CPRand First Aid are usually offered monthly. Courses are frequently held on Saturdays in Building 10-B. Courses can be customized and scheduled for clubs and organizations upon request. Certification is awarded through the American Heart Association. CPR classes are also affered to meet the needs of Healthcare Providers & students in medical programs. Carrying Concealed Handguns This course is not a beginners course. Students should be familiar with handling a handgun and firearm safety.Participation in a course such as this is required for those who wish to carry a concealed handgun. The course consists of eleven hours of training that includes four hours of instruction on a firing range. In order to complete the course successfully, students are required to pass a written examination and attain a qualifying score on the range. Tuition for this course is $75.00. Vehicle Safety Inspection
The Division of Continuing Education offers an eight hour Vehicle Safety Inspection class that is required for those who wish to inspect motor vehicles. Students taking this class must be in possession of a valid NC driver’s license and are required to present it in class. This course is usually offered monthly. EPA Refrigeration Recovery
EPA Recovery Certification classes can be scheduled for your business or organization upon request with sufficient numbers. However, if you are a refrigeration technician in need of this certification, testing can be arranged for you. Commercial Drivers License (CDL)
This course prepares candidates for the North Carolina Commercial Drivers License written examinations. Once student complete the CDL Permit, they will learn driving techniques and maneuvers that will enable them to obtain a class A commercial drivers license. Students will have approximately 800 miles of driving experience that includes one on one with an instructor. The actual written examination is administered at your local DMV office.
