Beaufort County Community College (Beaufort CCC)’s Small Business Center director, Jack Dugan, was recognized at last week’s North Carolina Community College Small Business Center Network meeting with the Center of Excellence Innovation Award for Programs and Seminars.
Dugan and program assistant Katelyn Thomas have expanded the center’s reach with creative and engaging programs that focus on the entrepreneurial mindset and the practical skills needed for new and existing business owners to start, succeed, and grow. Seminars on agriculture, aquaculture, and outdoor business reflect the interests that drive many prospective entrepreneurs in Eastern North Carolina. These programs are helping residents match their passions with viable business opportunities.
Entrepreneurship Rooted in Local Needs
The Small Business Center’s Seed and Sow program has made a measurable economic impact in Beaufort CCC’s rural service area. The initiative provides seed funding to help local entrepreneurs launch or expand small businesses, strengthening both family income and the broader regional economy.
A Statewide Network for Business Support
There is a Small Business Center at each of North Carolina’s fifty eight community colleges. These centers guide new entrepreneurs through the process of planning, developing, opening, and operating a small business.
