Advanced Manufacturing Institute quickly connects job-seekers to in-demand positions

Manufacturing firms are eager to fill new positions. Existing and new companies in Northeastern North Carolina are faced with a critical shortage of available skilled workers, and as a result ten counties banded together to form the Regional Advanced Manufacturing Pipeline for Eastern North Carolina (RAMP East). The alliance connects community colleges like Beaufort County Community College to manufacturers like Grady-White Boats, Iconic Marine Group, Triangle Tire, Oak Ridge Industries, PAS, P&G Manufacturing, ThermoFisher Scientific, Spinrite, Camfil, Hyster-Yale, Domtar, idX, AFF Flanders and Bridgestone.

Community colleges came together with manufacturers to develop short-term training that would quickly develop the interpersonal, problem-solving and safety skills needed to start a position with one of these firms. In two weeks, students can get the necessary skills and credentials to qualify, and at the end of the class, they can meet with job recruiters. The resulting Advanced Manufacturing Institute will start its next session on October 21.

This course is designed to help anyone looking for employment in manufacturing to earn credentials, develop knowledge, and skills that are desired in the manufacturing industry. The class will provide OSHA 10 safety training and certification, Yellow Belt training and certification, basic math, problem solving and Working Smart training and certification (includes training in self-awareness, self-management, work ethic, communication and problem-solving skills.). At the end of the course there will be a meet and greet with local manufacturing companies. This class will take place on from 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday starting October 21-November 5. The class costs $193, and in just weeks students could be eligible for in-demand positions with regional manufacturing firms.
