More driving classes offered; three in Spanish

In response to participant demand, Beaufort County Community College will offer more sections of Defensive Driving than in previous semesters and offer classes in Spanish for the first time. During the Spring 2020 semester, participants can choose from a total of 24 Defensive Driving classes, three of which will be in Spanish, and six of which will take place at the Washington County Center in Roper. Classes cost $70. These classes are for existing drivers, not people getting licensed for the first time.

In Defensive Driving, participants learn to drive safely for the sake of their families, friends, and themselves. The class teaches participants to recognize hazards, understand defenses, and act correctly and in time to avoid problems on the highway. Everyone is safer when more participants learn to drive defensively, and these participants will avoid costly traffic tickets. The class is approved by the District Attorney for Beaufort, Washington, Tyrrell and Hyde Counties. It is also sanctioned by most other NC District Attorneys, as well. The class is also used to complete the requirements for Escort Vehicle Certification.

Fifteen classes are offered in English on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings on the main campus in Beaufort County. These classes will take place on January 11, January 27, February 1, February 10, February 22, March 14, March 23, April 4, April 20, April 25, May 4, May 16, June 1, June 6 and June 27.

The three Spanish classes will take place on February 1, April 4 and June 6. These classes will take place from 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Saturday mornings on the main campus.

Six sessions will take place at the Washington County Center in Roper on January 25, February 22, March 21, April 25, May 30 and June 27. These classes are all on Saturday mornings.
