Beaufort County Community College’s is offering classes at the Pocosin Arts School of Fine Crafts in Columbia. Due to COVID-19 concerns, these two classes will take place through Zoom, with art materials delivered to registered students. This opens the class to people across BCCC's service area. Explore Ceramics

Learn about ceramics, the fundamental craft tied to human civilization as early as 28,000 BCE - it’s been all the rage for quite some time! Spend the morning in Pocosin Arts pottery studio, learning to make functional mugs and cups. This three-hour introductory course will immerse participants in hand-building techniques, surface design, and includes a fun and short history of ceramics. Participant’s creations will be available for pick up a week after class. Materials and firing included in the price. This class will take place through Zoom. Students will have materials delivered to them, and ceramics will get picked up to get fired in a kiln. This class costs just $45. Choose 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 18 or 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 25. Register & pay online.

Explore Metalsmithing

Rings and other types of jewelry have been in production as early as 3000 BCE, with the earliest examples found in the tombs of ancient Egypt. Learn to move metal and make a ring in Pocosin Arts School of Fine Craft’s professional metalsmithing studio. This three-hour introductory course will introduce essential techniques, and have participants sawing, forming, and soldering to create a custom fit silver ring in less than three hours! Materials included in the price. This class will take place through Zoom. Students will have materials delivered to them. This class costs just $45.
