How to successfully attend remote learning classes (synchronous classes)

If you are in a "remote learning" or synchronous class, it just means you will attend the class via live video. It’s kind of like when you video chat with your friends on FaceTime, Messenger, or SnapChat but …. IT’S EVEN BETTER!

To attend class, you have to log into your Blackboard class on the day and time that it is scheduled to meet. Everyone else in your class will be there too and they will be excited to see you! You can see your schedule of classes in self-service (www.beaufortccc.edu/self-service).

We know that this may be new to you, so we wanted to give you some simple steps to follow. To join the live video for your class:

Log in to Blackboard (https://beaufortccc.blackboard.com/)

1. Visit the My Courses tab to access your courses.
2. Click on your class on the day and time it is scheduled.
3. Click on “Collaborate Ultra” on the left-hand menu and join the session set up by your instructor.

It’s that easy! We can’t wait to see you there!

While we are on the topic, there are some other items of courtesy you should be aware of for attending synchronous classes.

BE ON TIME
Log on to your Blackboard course a few minutes before class is scheduled to begin.

BE IN A QUIET PLACE
Find a quiet place to use so that there are no background distractions for you or your classmates.

BE PREPARED
Make sure your computer is on and charged and your camera and microphone are ready to go.

PRESENTATION
Wear appropriate clothing.
Sit up straight.
Be in camera view.

MUTE YOURSELF
Mute yourself when your instructor or another student is talking.

PARTICIPATION
Be focused.
Be present.
Be attentive and actively participate.

CHAT RESPONSIBLY
Use the chat bar to post a question or answer or to let your instructor know that you have a question.

COMMUNICATION
Speak clearly.
Look up when speaking.
Stay on topic.

BE RESPECTFUL
Be kind.
Be considerate.
Everyone is here to learn.
