Welcome to Beaufort Community College Fire & Emergency Management Training

FIRE & EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT OVERVIEW

The Fire and Emergency Management Program at BCCC provides training to anyone that desires to be a First Responder and to the Public Emergency Services Agencies and Private Industrial Partners in a four-county service area of Beaufort, Hyde, Washington, and Tyrrell Counties. Courses include the minimum standards for certification from the North Carolina Fire Rescue Commission (NCFRC) through the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM).  mpus.

These courses meet the minimum Standards of the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), North Carolina Fire Rescue Commission (NCFRC), the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal (NCOSFM) and the North Carolina Emergency Management OFFICE (NCEM).  

The courses are conducted both at the various fire stations throughout the BCCC service area, Industrial Partners Facilities, and at our Public Safety Center Building on the Main Campus of BCCC. 

To be a Certified Firefighter under the Standards of the North Carolina Fire Rescue Commission (NCFRC) through the North Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) the minimum courses must be passed with a score of 70% or better.  These courses include:

Emergency Management Programs 

Emergency Management Courses are provided to First Responders and Emergency Managers that meet the minimum standards of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, and North Carolina Emergency Management Office. A majority of these courses are supported from the National Emergency Training Center, Emergency Management Institute, Emmitsburg MD. 

The mission of the Emergency Management Institute (EMI) is to “Support the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s (FEMA’s) goals by improving the competencies of U.S. officials at all levels of Government to prevent, prepare for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the potential effects of all types of disasters and emergencies on the American people.” 

North Carolina General Statute 166A, Article 5 authorizes North Carolina Emergency Management (NCEM), in the Department of Public Safety, to create a voluntary certification program for the profession of Emergency Management in the State of North Carolina. The certification program’s purpose is to “strengthen and enhance the professional competencies of emergency management personnel in state and local emergency management agencies.”

Career and College Promise 

Career and College Promise offers North Carolina high school students a clear path to success in college or in a career. The program is available to all students who meet the eligibility requirements. Through a partnership of the Department of Public Instruction, the N.C. Community College System, the University of North Carolina system and many independent colleges and universities, North Carolina is helping eligible high school students to begin earning college credit at a community college campus tuition-free for them and their families.
