This course covers nail technology techniques, hand and arm surface manipulation, and recognition of nail diseases and disorders. Topics include OSHA/safety, sanitation, bacteriology, product knowledge, salesmanship, manicures, artificial applications, pedicures, surface manipulation, and other related topics. Upon completion, students should be able to safely and competently perform nail care, including manicures, pedicures, surface manipulations, decorating and artificial applications in a salon setting. The course materials include the Milady Standard Nail Technology textbook (ISBN: 978-1-337-78655-3), Milady Foundations textbook (ISBN: 978-1-337-09525-9), and a class kit available in the BCCC bookstore (prices are subject to change). Students will also need to purchase black closed-toed shoes, black scrubs, and obtain a photo ID from BCCC campus police before class.

This course designed to teach how to care for natural hair without the use of chemicals such as perms/relaxers and hair color. The style techniques include braiding, twisting, wrapping, extending and locking natural hair. The coursework also includes teaching the proper health, safety, and sanitation procedures to avoid spreading infections. The students will be able to apply their skills to clients who visit the clinic. After successfully completing the course, the students will be able to sit for the North Carolina State Board of Cosmetic Arts exam to become a licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist. The course materials include the Milady Standard Natural Hair and Braiding textbook (ISBN: 978-1-133-69368-0), Milady Foundations textbook (ISBN: 978-1-337-09525-9), and a class kit available in the BCCC bookstore (prices are subject to change).
