Beaufort County Community College nursing students Madison Hall and Gabriella Jordon have each been awarded the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation People Helping People Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship, distributed over two years, is funded through monthly contributions from SECU’s 2.9 million members.

Deborah Waters, senior financial services officer at SECU’s Washington branch, presented the awards to the students.

Madison Hall, an Associate Degree Nursing student, has balanced athletics and academics throughout her education. As a high school captain in volleyball and softball, she developed leadership and communication skills that continue to guide her in college. She has given back through the Special Olympics, youth sports camps, Samaritan’s Shoebox, hurricane relief drives, and Senior Beta Club projects. Hall looks forward to a career in health care where she can continue serving others.

Gabriella Jordon has contributed to her community through her church, helping with Vacation Bible School and food bank initiatives alongside her mother, the Children’s Ministry Director. She has also gained early work experience as a waitress and has been active in athletics, playing volleyball, basketball, and soccer. Jordon’s experiences include an African mission trip, earning scuba certification, and winning a local pageant. After Beaufort CCC, she plans to continue her education at East Carolina University, pursue nursing at the Children’s Hospital in Greenville, and work toward becoming a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist with a goal of serving in medical missions overseas.

The SECU Foundation awards 116 scholarships to North Carolina community college students each year, representing a commitment of $580,000. Scholarships recognize students who exemplify the credit union’s philosophy of “People Helping People” through leadership, character, integrity, and community service. Students are connected to the scholarship through the Beaufort County Community College Foundation.
