Selling on Etsy

Pamela Zimmerman opened her first Etsy shop in 2008 and has had over 6,000 sales there. Although she was a fiber artist of international standing, Zimmerman found her work was not very marketable in Eastern North Carolina. Long distance gallery relationships took a lot of effort and meant her artwork was out of her immediate control. Finding Etsy was the solution to selling. Zimmerman maintains four shops on Etsy.com, selling pottery, metal, fiber and vintage items.

This seminar is great for participants who want to sell the things they make online. Etsy will allow them to market to a specific group of people and offload their collectables they have held onto for 20 years. Etsy is a good place to sell materials that can be used to make other things, as well. It can also be a place to sell how-to articles to the right people.

Participants will learn how to choose a name and open a shop, five keys to success, how to list an item, how to find information on the Etsy website and how to collect money and ship. It will take place on Thursday, April 12 at 2:00 p.m.

Sales and Use Tax

The NC Department of Revenue will host this workshop for small business owners. They will discuss the basics of sales and use taxes including registering for an account, learning about the most common types of taxes collected, and preparing and filing a return. This hands-on workshop is intended to help small business owners better understand their sales and use tax obligations and the proper procedure for filing and paying a sales and use tax return.

Sales and use tax law changes regarding capital improvements and repair, maintenance, and installation services will not be addressed in any depth during this seminar. If you have questions regarding this tax law change, please call our toll free number 1-877-252-3052. This workshop will take Tuesday, April 17 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Conquering Negativity in the Workplace

Negativity and complaining are big problems in business today. It undermines the effectiveness of a team and organization, leading to contempt and an inability to adapt and change. Workplace negativity can spread quickly and quietly, but it can be stopped before morale slips and productivity suffers.

In this workshop you will learn how to define negativity and the effects it has on an organization, the three major issues that generate negativity and the four types of negativity that could be contributing to the challenges in your organization. John Formica will help participants understand the negative thinker, give tips on how to diffuse negative perceptions and teach how to confront negative people in a positive way. He will explain how to create a “fun factor” and a more positive work environment. This free workshop will take place on Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00 p.m.

How to Setup QuickBooks for Your Business or Non-Profit

This free seminar, geared toward the novice QuickBooks user, will discuss the important first steps to properly set up a QuickBooks company file, user restriction, data protection and financial statement layout.
