Pantego & Belhaven Health Fair

The public is invited to the Pantego and Belhaven Health Fair on February 26 between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. noon at the Beaufort County High School Alumni building at 150 Swamp Rd., Pantego. The event will be held outside, and participants can get free screenings, including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, A1C, cholesterol, and more. The screening is being organized by Raleigh, Loretta, and Joyce Younger; Patricia Satterthwaite; and Dorothy King as part of their Community Health Coach course through the Division of Continuing Education.

The Community Health Coach course empowers individuals to serve as an advocate within their community, including their church, professional, social, civic, or business organization. The community health coaches learn to identify health and medical issues and to guide at-risk individuals to seek health services or healthy changes. Instructional topics include: risk factors and disease complications, nutrition and cardiovascular disease, tobacco use, nutrition, community outreach, physical activity, and stress management. Participants must be high school graduates or equivalent to take the course.

As the final component of the course, participants are encouraged to organize their own health fair. Community health coaches will be hosting fairs in different areas throughout the spring.

To find out about the next Community Health Coach course, contact Jackie Butcher, Director of Healthcare Programs, at 252-940-6263.
